I have been asked those questions for a while now. Being a hands-on leader who takes pride in doing things the first time. I want to share the tried and true method I have deployed throughout my 20 years of Project and Operations Management. The theory is simple:

3 Ps:
✓ People (employees & clients!)
✓ Process
✓ Performance

Without genuinely understanding people who have a stake or are impacted by your project or organization, the processes and strategies you develop will not be purposeful for those affected. The methods typically will be misused, misinterpreted, or even ignored. To drive impactful performance, processes/strategies and how one manages a project or organization must be created with people in mind.

Now, with a 3As attitude:
✓ Alignment
✓ Accountability
✓ Action-focused

It’s easy to talk a game, to plan and plan and plan. But, without the alignment within the team, without the team truly understanding the strategy and how their efforts matter, a plan will never succeed. Accountability is important. Begin with yourself as a leader; hold yourself accountable for your role and your responsibilities, and lead by example. Then, keep your team responsible and have the site lead, the department heads, and all key stakeholders accountable; that’s how your plan can succeed. Without putting effort into execution, planning is useless. Lead your team to be action-focused. Want your project to be delivered successfully? Want your organization to grow impactfully? Focus on actions, execute, execute, and execute!
